What happens during the 90-minute consultation?
We start with a conversation about how you use your space, what's not working with your current lighting, and what you're hoping to achieve. Then we do a room-by-room walkthrough, assessing existing lighting, ceiling types, electrical infrastructure, and opportunities for improvement. We discuss options, answer questions, and take measurements and photos. It's a collaborative process — we want to understand your needs and preferences so we can design lighting that works for you.
Do I have to proceed with the work?
Absolutely not. The consultation is just that — a consultation. You receive expert advice and a detailed written proposal. You can take that information and do what you like with it. Many clients use our proposal to compare quotes from other electricians, which is fine. However, if you do decide to proceed with us for work valued over $2,000, we credit the full $349 consultation fee towards your project.
How detailed is the written proposal?
Very detailed. You receive a room-by-room lighting plan with specific product recommendations (with links to where you can see them), quantities, installation notes, switching and dimming suggestions, and an itemised quote covering all products and labour. The proposal is detailed enough that you could take it to another electrician for comparison, or use it as a shopping list if you want to source products yourself.
Can you help with smart lighting?
Yes. If you're interested in smart lighting — controlling lights via voice commands, smartphone apps, or automated schedules — we'll discuss your options during the consultation. We can recommend smart switches, smart bulbs, or whole-home lighting control systems depending on your budget and requirements. We'll also explain what works with Google Home, Alexa, and Apple HomeKit.
What if I only want advice for one or two rooms?
That's fine. While the consultation covers your whole home, we can focus on specific rooms if that's what you need. Many clients are renovating a kitchen or bathroom and just need lighting advice for those spaces. We tailor the consultation to your requirements.
How soon can you visit?
Usually within 3-5 business days, often sooner. We offer evening and weekend appointments if weekdays don't suit. Just let us know your preferred times when you book.
